Our School Prepares to Celebrate Catholic Schools Week!

1/25/2020

Catholic Schools Week begins Sunday, January 26th. As part of the week, we will celebrate all the groups that make our Catholic School great. Additionally, students are invited to participate in the theme days which were organized by our Student Council.
General Guidelines from the Parent Handbook regarding special dress days:

"All clothing shall be within the guidelines of decency and good taste as appropriate for Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic School. Clothing should maintain a level of modesty. All clothing shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. The same length regulations as stated [in the dress code policy] apply to skirts, shorts, and skorts on no-dress-code days. Any clothing that has reference to drugs, alcohol, considered racist or contains sexual innuendo will not be allowed at school or at any school-sponsored functions, including those occurring after school hours."

Sunday: Catholic Schools Week Begins
  • Show your school pride at Mass.
  • Wear your school polo to Mass. Students who attend 10:45 a.m. Mass with their polo on will receive a free jeans certificate for February 12th.
  • Not able to come to the 10:45 Mass at Our Mother of Sorrows? Take a picture of yourself outside Church on Sunday in your school polo and share it to the school Facebook page or email it to Mrs. Vu. You can receive the jeans certificate for the free jeans day on February 12.
Monday: Decades Day
  • Dress in the decade of your choice. Sport your poodle skirt and Letterman jacket or rock out in your best 80s style. There are so many options, so sport your favorite decade.
Tuesday: Movie Character Day
  • Come dressed as your favorite movie character! You might choose to be a princess, super hero, or even Indiana Jones! You can also wear a t-shirt with your favorite movie character on it.
Wednesday: Class Color Day
  • Each grade has chosen a color for their grade to wear. Then come dressed in a monochromatic style. Students may also choose to wear jeans with their color t-shirt. Be on the look out for more information about the color from your child's teacher.
Thursday: Twin Day
  • Dress like a friend or teacher at the school. If you need an idea, you can always come dressed as an OMOS student since we come dressed as "twins" every day.
Friday: Mass Dress
  • School Uniform

Student Artwork Displayed at Library

1/21/2020

If you have walked around the school lately, you will see the halls filled with beautiful artwork. We have some talented artists here at Our Mother of Sorrows. Well, now their work is on display at the Wilmot LIbrary for all to see.

The address is
530 N Wilmot Rd, Tucson, AZ 85710.

The artwork is a great sneak peak of the beautiful works of art that will be on display during the S.T.E.A.M. night at the end of January.

Tax Credits Help Families Afford Catholic School

1/18/2020

I hope you and your family enjoy the long weekend. Students in K-8 do not have class on Tuesday, January 21st due to the conferences. The preschool students will have class.

As we prepare for next year, I invite all our families to consider making a dollar for dollar tax credit to the Catholic Tuition Support Organization (CTSO). Most of our students receive some financial support from tax credits to attend Our Mother of Sorrows. By designating some or all of your state income tax to CTSO, you are helping to support the children who attend Our Mother of Sorrows. The best part of the donation to CTSO is that it does not cost you anything additional. You are simply telling the state that you want your taxes to go to CTSO in order to help a family afford a Catholic education. Whether you receive funds from CTSO or another tax credit organization, the CTSO donations help to support many of our children.

The maximum donation for a person filing as a single person is $1,135. The maximum donation for a person filing as a married couple is $2,269. For more information on how to make a donation, please contact Mr. Arvizu as jarvizu@omosschool.com.

Thank you so much for your support of Catholic education through your donation to CTSO!
