Resource Program

“Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them;
 for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Matthew 19:14
This resource program was founded under the direction of principal Sister Lauren Moss, OSF, in the early 1990s. Her dream was to ensure that Catholic education was accessible to the children in Tucson. Since its founding, the program has continued to work toward supporting the academic needs of the students at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic School.

The goal of the resource program at Our Mother of Sorrows is to assist students who have been identified as needing additional academic support based on a diagnosed learning disability. Based on the learning need, the resource teacher develops either a Catholic Accommodation Plan (CAP) or a Catholic Accommodation and Modification Plan (CAMP) which specifies the type of support that the student will receive in the main classroom and the resource program at Our Mother of Sorrows.

Student support may happen in the general classroom which might include breaking assignments into smaller chunks, oral testing, or preferred seating. When a student requires support above and beyond the general classroom setting, instruction may take place within small group pull-out session or the resource teacher support the student in the classroom during regular instruction.

Some students have documented learning needs that necessitate having the resource teacher teach Math or English Language Arts outside the general classroom. When this happens, the resource teacher will be responsible for the academic instruction within the specified content area. The additional, specialized instruction will align with a documented disability, and parents will work closely with the resource teacher to track the learning progress for their child.

The Resource program works closely with the general education teachers to implement the appropriate student support in the classroom. Additionally, the resource teacher works closely with families to ensure that families understand the academic progress that is being made.
