Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic School

OMOS Preschool

Located on Tucson’s eastside in a newly renovated facility, Our Mother of Sorrows Preschool provides children with an academic, social, and spiritual education in a Catholic community setting.

Our Mother of Sorrows Preschool offers an early childhood developmental program for children three and a half to five years old. Full day care is available from 7:00 am to 6:00 p.m., with a structured school day from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Part-time programs are also available.

About the program

The OMOS Preschool follows the curriculum guidelines as developed by the Diocese of Tucson. The preschool curriculum is much more than play time or babysitting.  The school's curriculum is age appropriate, designed specifically to build capacities in the following areas:

·          Physical  development
·          Social  and emotional development
·          Intellectual growth
·          Spiritual awareness.

The history of the OMOS Preschool learning philosophy has been to allow children to develop learning skills at their various developmental levels. This includes the acquisition and development of fine motor and gross motor skills, as well as cognitive skills for preparation for our Kindergarten program.  The cognitive piece is articulated through academic tasks such as letter and number recognition. This OMOS learning philosophy is the cornerstone of  our preschool.

Daily/Weekly Activities

Educational materials are designed to provide a wide variety of learning experiences geared to the developmental needs of children. These experiences are meant to fascinate the child.

Religion begins each school day with prayer and discussion. Learning about Language is so important for the young child and activities such as story telling , rhymes, words and their opposites encourage an understanding of language and the alphabet. Both gross and fine motor skills are developed with activities such as jumping, throwing, catching, and balancing. Pre-academic skills include math and science activities and developing numerical and letter recognition. Creative arts include music, creative movement and art experiences with painting, stamping, and drawing.

All of the planned activities and experiences promote the development of each child while recognizing not all children learn at the same pace.
