Larry Lake's Karate (New for 2017!)
Karate is a martial art for the development of character through training, so that students can surmount any obstacle, material or spiritual. It is an empty-handed art of self-defense in which the body itself is harnessed and applied through techniques of punching, kicking, striking, and blocking. Of primary importance in the study of karate are form, balance, “centered-ness”, power, speed, and concentration of rhythm and timing. Training transforms various part of the body into defense weapons to be used prudently and effectively. The virtues needed to accomplish this include self-control, courage, integrity, and humility. This discipline is made fun and exciting for young students through Larry Lake’s tailored program offered on campus after school on campus for grades K-3 after school on Fridays, 1:30 - 2:10 p.m.
Ms. Brenda Chambers, master teacher and director of the Tucson String Choir Academy, offers after school classes for beginner violin. These entry level classes consist of students, ages 5 to 15, who perform at a variety of functions on and off campus. Aside from the joy and excitement of learning to play and perform on the violin and cello, the skills acquired aid in present and future academic endeavors. Published scientific studies have shown that the effect of string education on young minds significantly increases development of memory, literacy, mathematics, and overall IQ.
